Third suspect appears in court for aggravated kidnapping case.

One of the three men arrested in association with the alleged kidnapping and beating of a Nickerson man did make a court appearance Wednesday morning on the latest arrest, but was also read the complaint against him in a previous case.

In the earlier case, 27-year-old Jeremia Palmer is accused of threatening a man with physical harm back on July 30, and apparently, the formal charge had not be read to him prior to the new case.

In the new case, he faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, and attempted robbery. He was arrested on Monday after a brief standoff with sheriff’s officials at his home at 311 South Cheney in Nickerson. He was finally taken into custody without incident.

The other two suspects were arrested Sunday evening after the Sheriff’s office and Hutchinson Police served a search warrant at 8 N. Heath in Nickerson. The warrant was based on a report filed by 28-year-old Larry McVey of Nickerson, about being kidnapped and beaten on Thursday. After an investigation the search warrant was served.

28-year-old Jedrik Smith, of 1400 North Ford is facing possible charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated robbery, and criminal threat. 29-year-old Zachary Lawson is charged with aggravated kidnapping, attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, criminal threat, possession of drugs, possession of meth and marijuana. His bond set at 137-thousand 500-dollars.

Smith and Lawson made first appearances Monday afternoon via a video connection with the jail, and both will be back in court on September 21.

Smith already has a case pending for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and theft for an incident back on July 5th.
