HCC Board Elects New Chair and Vice-Chair

The Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees heard a report on athletic insurance for HCC student athletes.

The cost of the medical insurance experienced only a slight increase in premium from the previous year.

In additional board business, the group elected the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board for the 2012-2013 year, electing David Marshall as Chairman and Marla Eriksen as Vice-Chairman.

Carter File, HCC Vice President of Finance, presented the Colleges’ 2012-2013 budget proposal at the meeting.

For the 2012-2013 fiscal year, state revenue is forecast to increase by approximately $738,000 because of the state funding partially the new technical education funding formula.

Tuition increased by two dollars and county valuation is slated to increase by approximately 3.7 percent.

Even with salary increases at approximately 2.5 percent which is $450,000, increased insurance costs of $75,000, increased costs for technology, increased energy costs and enrollment projected to be flat, the college levy will not increase again this year. Over the past two years, the levy has been lowered by approximately 2 mills and is lower than the 2000 levy even including the .5 mills approved by Reno County for Gowans stadium in 2004.
