Story from the Salina Post
SALINA – Police have identified the Salina man who took his own life while keeping officers at bay for close to four hours Wednesday evening in the 400-block of College.
36-year-old Mark Anthony Peter was found dead from a single gun shot wound to the head in the bathtub of the home just before 8 p-m.
Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield says police were contacted around 4:00pm to the report of a suicidal subject that had access to firearms. The police set up a perimeter around the house.
A police negotiator did have contact with the man early, but was unable to establish any meaningful contact after several more attempts.
Officers then broke into the home through the back door and sent a robot with a camera inside and found the man dead in the bathroom.
During the four hours of the incident, two police officers were taken to Salina Regional Health Center to be treated for heat related issues.
