Hutchinson Home Destroyed By Fire After Disturbance Earlier In the Afternoon

Hutchinson Fire Crews were called to a structure fire at 325 East 2nd just before 5 p-m Monday evening.

Fire Captain Doug Hanen says they had to be defensive with the fire and try to keep smoke away from a Westar substation located directly east of the home. He says because of the intensity of the fire, they had to go defensive right away. He says the fire and smoke could be seen coming from the back of the home when they arrived.

They had several units on scene along with police. Detective Dean Harcrow will assist in the investigation because of the nature of the fire, and the fact that a disturbance had been reported earlier in the afternoon

The home said to belong to Donnie Taylor who is well know to law enforcement. He was arrested on Monday after a disturbance at the home. Charges include battery, discorderly conduct, and interference with law enforcement. He is jailed on a 1-thousand, 100-dollar bond.

Whether the disturbance has anything to do with the fire that destroyed his home is unknown. But, officials are looking at this one very close, but it did start after police left the scene with Taylor in custody. Police and fire officials were conducting interviews of possible witnesses to what may have happened.

The home itself with a be a total loss with the roof of the home collapsing.
