NEWTON – A 40-year-old Hutchinson man faces serious charges in Harvey County after a two vehicle crash where one man was killed and another man was critically injured.

Bryan Reed is jailed in Harvey County on charges of aggravated reckless battery, vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and illegal transportation of an open container.

At around 9:00 p-m, Monday, a pick up driven by Reed was traveling west bound on 1st Street, when he hit a Saturn station wagon that was traveling north on Ridge in Harvey County. The driver of the Saturn, 52-year-old Donald Nickles of Hesston was transported to Wesley Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. His passenger, 28-year-old Jessie Stroup of Alton, Kansas, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at Newton Medical Center.

Reed was uninjured and was arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol, where he awaits the possibility of formal charges being made after review by the Harvey County Attorney.
