More than 300 troops in the 1st Sustainment Brigade at Fort Riley will be deploying to Afghanistan. They cased the unit’s colors during a ceremony on post Monday.

Colonel Brian Tempest said the upcoming deployment to Afghanistan is the third in five years for the unit. He noted that will be the next chapter in the distinguished history of the brigade. “And will continue the tradition of providing support for the warfighter on the ground.”

One of the key jobs of this unit will be to fulfill transportation needs. They will be stationed at Regional Command East in Afghanistan.

The deployment is scheduled for nine months.
