A shoplifting incident Tuesday morning led officers to what they first thought was a meth lab, but that wasn’t the case. It turns out that the resident at 702 North Plum was actually building a Hydrogen converter, which according to police separates water and Hydrogen and then into power for his vehicle.

The Drug Unit was called out according to Jeremy Hedges with the Reno County Drug Unit, but also confirmed there was not a meth lab. The operator was not arrested.

They did make an arrest of a 24-year-old man for the shoplifting incident. Stanley Wooley of Newton was arrested for the misdemeanor theft charge.
