A 21-year-old Hutchinson man convicted and sentenced for attempting to rob a used car dealership back on June 27 of last year was bound over for trial Monday on an amended charge of “abuse of a child.”

Zachary Thompson had been accused of aggravated endangerment, but prior to the hearing Monday, District Attorney Keith Schroeder refiled the case with the amended charge.

Thompson is now accused of abusing a 10-month old child. The state alleges that he took his anger out on the child because the child’s mother wouldn’t loan him money. The child sustained bruising on the buttocks, back, and legs. The alleged abuse occurring back on May 12, 2011.

With him being bound over, he’ll be arraigned on the charge next month.

In other cases, Thompson was convicted of attempted aggravated robbery, while the state dropped the second charge of aggravated assault. He was also convicted of aggravated battery for a case where he allegedly struck someone with a board. He was given 36-months community corrections for the two cases back in November, after he serve 60-days in the county jail. But, the underlying sentence is 42-months.

Again, he was bound over on the abuse charge and the case as it stands now will go to trial.
