A 23-year-old Hutchinson man found guilty of a single count of abuse of child was denied any departure and sentenced to 32-months in prison by Judge Tim Chambers.

Lloyd Parker Jr., of 203 East A, Apt. B was charged for using a belt on a 3-year-old girl back on January 15, 2009. But, this was much more then a simple spanking. It came to light at the hearing Monday that he has tied the child up and literally beat her over her entire body. This caused more then bruising, but some cuts and welts over different areas of her body.

The child was beaten while the mother was at work and Parker had indicated that he just lost it, but Judge Tim Chambers noted that he also just learned of the 3-year-old being restrained.

In court, the mother became to emotional to even speak, but the grandmother did and told of the on going trauma to the child and that they have her in counseling.

Parker admitted he did wrong and apologized. He told the judge that he wanted a second chance to show that he can do good. Parker has no prior criminal history and his attorney Sam Kepfield while admitting the photos of the child are disturbing, asked for a border box finding and grant him some type of probation. He says this case is the exception, not the rule when it comes to Parker’s personality.

District Attorney Keith Schroeder wanted the maximum sentence for Parker under state sentencing guidelines.

Judge Chambers in the end, ordered the 32-month sentence be served stating he could not find a substantial and compelling reason to depart.

Parker has been in the county jail for 134-days according to his count and that will take some time off the sentence.
