A public memorial service was held Thursday for the first man to walk on the moon. Niel Armstrong died August 25 th

The Kansas Cosmosphere broadcast the service live from the museums Discovery Room. Armstrong was one of 12 men to walk on the surface of the moon when he set foot on the lunar surface July
20th, 1969. Jim Remar, of the Cosmosphere, says Armstrongs death is a reminder to all about the importance of that piece of history to the United States and the world. The 12 men who walked on the moon approached the accomplishment in many different ways. Remar says
Armstrong never sought out recognition from his moon walk, staying out of the lime light most of his life.

Following the memorial, guests signed a Memorial Book for Neil Armstrong, located in the Cosmosphere Hall of Space Museum, next to the Apollo 11 Moon Rock Exhibit. The Moon rock, returned by Armstrong’s
Apollo 11 crew, is on loan to the Cosmosphere from the NASA Lunar Sample Display Program.
