Accident Kills Newton Woman, Injures Three

One person is dead and three others injured in a one vehicle accident on the Harvey/Reno County line east of Buhler Sunday night.

According to the Harvey County Sheriffs Office, 18-year-old Cory Rutschman of Newton, was driving on Woodbury Road around 9 p-m, when he lost control of the pick up truck. The vehicle went down a 20-foot embankment before coming to rest on the passenger side in a creek bed.

Rutschman’s mother, 39-year-old Beverly Rutschman, who was a passenger in the pick up, was partially ejected from the truck and was trapped under water. She was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Cory Rutschman and two passengers were all taken to Via-Cristi St Francis Regional Medical Center. Rutschman is listed in fair condition. Two others who were riding in the back of the truck, 19-year-old Chad Jazen of Hesston, is listed in critical condition. The other passenger, 18 year old Spencer Fast of Moundridge, is in stable condition.
