The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team swept NJCAA national honors on Wednesday when Danielle Sheehy was named the Division I National Player of the Week and Eunice Figueroa was named the National Goalkeeper of the Week.

This is the second time in 2012 that Sheehy was named the national player of the week. It’s the second time in Figueroa’s standout career that she was named the National Goalkeeper of the Week.

Both players’ efforts have been key in No. 1-ranked Hutchinson going 8-0 to start the season.

DANIELLE SHEEHY
The freshman forward from Limebrick, Ireland, has been spectacular in her first eight games as a Lady Dragon.

Sheehy recorded two more hat tricks – she has seven for the season – last week in victories over Hesston College and Pratt. Sheehy also scored a pair of goals and delivered the eventual game-winner in the Lady Dragons’ 3-2 victory over. No. 19 Johnson County on Saturday at the USD 308 Athletic Complex.

For the week, Sheehy had eight goals, two assists and 18 total points. In just eight games, Sheehy has moved squarely into several Lady Dragon soccer Top 10 statistical lists.

EUNICE FIGUEROA
The Lady Dragons have posted seven shutouts in eight games thus far and Figueroa has figured in five of them.

The sophomore from Arlington, Texas registered victories over Hesston, Pratt and Johnson County, playing g135 minutes in all three games. Figueroa was at her best in the second half against Johnson County on Saturday. She made three huge save to preserve the Lady Dragons’ one goal lead. Against the Cavaliers, Figueroa tied a career game high with five saves.
