A 33-year-old Wichita man will be back in court on September 26, when the state is expected to have filed formal charges against him.

Dominic Vargas is facing possible charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of hallucinogenic drug mushrooms and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Reno County Drug Unit served a search warrant at a motel room at the Budget Inn at 15 West 4th as well as for his vehicle. They allegedly found a digital scale with meth pieces on it. In the vehicle, they allegedly found a zip-lock bag of mushrooms and Vargas allegedly had a sandwich bag of marijuana in his front pocket. He also had a large amount of cash on him.

In court he was told of the potential charges and bond of 12-thousand, 500-dollars was left the same.

Vargas is well known to local law enforcement with convictions for drugs, obstruction, and misdemeanor convictions for battery of law enforcement officers. All of the convictions occurring back in March, June and November of 2009. He did serve time for those crimes and was paroled on July 17, of this year.

He was also reported as an absconder at one point since his release, but the warrant for that was apparently withdrawn.

In one case, Vargas was in possession of crystal meth in five separate baggies which led police to believe he intended to sell it. This case occurring on June 20, 2009.

In the other case, Vargas is accused of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. The officer, Stephen Schaffer allegedly suffered a couple of fractures in his knee because of the alleged struggle at an apartment at 1811 Lyman, Apt. C. Vargas hid under a child’s bed from law enforcement in that case. That was back on March 11, 2009.

He was given 30-months, but granted probation, however he violated his probation and the sentence was ordered served.
