MCPHERSON – A 19-year-old from Dallas, Texas who played last year for McPherson College has been arrested with a new charge in association with the beating of a Tabor Football Player.

Alton Franklin is now charged with aiding and abetting murder in the second degree. McPherson County Attorney David Page announced the charge Monday which is a level 2 person felony with a sentencing range of 109-to-143 months, and a fine up to 300-thousand dollars. Bond now set at 500-hundred thousand dollars. He made a first appearance on the charge Monday, and a preliminary hearing date has been set for October 3.

The charge coming after the 26-year-old Brandon Brown, a Tabor football player died over the weekend. He has been found beaten after an early morning disturbance in McPherson back on September 16.

Brown was found in the 400 block of North Carrie and sustained critical injuries as a result of the altercation. He was taken to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center where he died at 10:16 p.m. Saturday night.

McPherson Police Chief Rob McClarty says the investigation into the case is on-going and being conducted by his department, the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office and the KBI.

The Tabor College student body and campus community will honor the life of Brandon Brown with a memorial service on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. It will be held at the First MB Church in Hillsboro, 300 Prairie Pointe. The public is invited and welcome to attend.

McPherson College says Franklin played football last year but wasn’t on this year’s team.

A fund had been set up for Brown and his family at Emprise Bank in Hillsboro.
