One person was taken to a Wichita hospital after being struck by a vehicle north of Hutchinson.
According Sheriff Captain Wayne Baughman, just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Reno County deputies, Hutchinson Fire and Reno County EMS, were all sent to 5510 E 69th for the report that someone had been run over. Units were also told that there were 30+ people at the scene and a possible disturbance was in progress. What the deputies found at the scene was a Ford F150 pickup driven by 46-year-old Tommy Rockey of Hutchinson drove up a small hill, lost control, and started driving towards a crowd of people.
Everyone but 24-year-old Daron O’Malley of Wichita, got out of the way and he was run over. He was airlifted by EagleMed Helicopter to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident and Rockey was taken into custody and booked into the Reno County Jail charged with reckless aggravated battery.
