Alford Earns Conference Offensive Honor For Second Time in 2011

Coming off a school-record six passing touchdowns last Saturday, Hutchinson Community College quarterback Elliott Alford was named the Verizon Wireless/Jayhawk Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Alford, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound sophomore quarterback from Bennettsville, S.C., completed 12 of 18 passes for a career-high 301 yards and a team-record six touchdown passes. Alford also had a rushing touchdown as Hutchinson scored an NJCAA modern-day scoring record in a 90-7 victory over Highland last Saturday night at Gowans Stadium.

For the season, Alford is completing 66.2 percent of his passes (53 of 80) for 853 yards. He has thrown for 12 touchdowns and only one interception.

Alford is now ninth on the career passing chart with 2,373 yards and is sixth in total offense with 2,775 yards.

This is the second time this season that Alford has earned weekly conference honors. He was also selected in Week 1 as a co-winner after the Kilgore College game.

Alford is the sixth Blue Dragon this season to earn Player of the Week honors.

For the second-straight year, Verizon Wireless is the title sponsor of the Jayhawk Conference Football Players of the Week. Alford is now eligible for NJCAA national player of the week honors. Those winners will be announced later this week.
