WICHITA – On Saturday, at approximately 11:47 p.m., a 19-year-old Sedgwick County inmate being housed at the Ottawa County Detention Facility was pronounced dead after having an apparent seizure.

The inmate was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on Friday on a 60-day commitment for charges stemming from two juvenile cases. Due to the population of the Sedgwick County Jail, this inmate was transferred to Ottawa County to be housed there.

The KBI and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death. The KBI is responsible for investigating all inmate deaths that are not ruled a natural a natural death.

The name of the inmate has not been released pending notification of next of KIN.
