On Wednesday afternoon at around 1:00 p.m., a fire was reported in the Disciplinary Segregation Unit at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility Central Unit which is the main prison. The fire was in one cell in this unit.

One inmate was taken to the facility clinic for treatment for smoke inhalation. The fire was extinguished by staff at the facility who have been trained to handle these types of situations.

HCF did not request assistance from the Hutchinson Fire Department and were able to get it out on their own.

The cause of the fire is under investigation so officials are withholding the name of the inmate involved.

There were no staff injuries.
