At approximately 11:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, a Hutchinson Correctional Facility work release inmate was reported to be missing from his place of employment at Collins Bus Corporation in South Hutchinson. A supervisor at Collins was not able to locate the inmate identified as 36-years-old Juan S. Marques Jr., and made the proper notifications to the prison facility.
An emergency count began at the prison and among the work release inmates who were at Collins. At 1:30 p.m., it was determined that the inmate was missing and the escape siren at the prison was sounded. An HCF Response Team was sent to Collins to further search for Marques
An officer with that team found Marques hiding in a restroom. He was taken into custody and returned to the prison. He was placed in the Administrative Segregation Unit pending an investigation.
Marques had been in the Work Release program since June 28. He was a minimum custody inmate and is incarcerated for numerous charges of burglary, theft, aggravated battery and criminal possession of a firearm from Sedgwick and Reno counties. He was scheduled to be released in April of 2013.
Upon completion of the investigation by the prison, their reports will be forwarded to the Reno County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible charges.
