Six people managed to escape a westside home Wednesday afternoon when a smoke alarm alerted them to the danger.

When fire crews arrived, they saw flames on the front porch of the home and also coming through a window of a front bedroom, this at a home at 1314 Arthur.

It took Hutchinson fire crews about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. The main damage appears to be the porch and the bedroom, but the rest of the home suffered smoke and heat damage according to fire officials.

The fire was called in around 2 p.m. No word on what caused the fire, but damage to the home was estimated at 25,000.00, while damage to the contents was around 5000.00.

Fire inspectors are still investigating to try to find the cause.

The American Red Cross arrived to help the family with their loss. They were renting the home according to fire officials.
