The murder trial for Charles Christopher Logsdon is in recess with the jury told to go home for the day and call in after 8 a-m, Wednesday to see what time they need to report. Judge Trish Rose told them the earliest would be at 9 a-m.

There had been reports that the co-defendant, Billy Craig Jr., would be on the stand Tuesday, but that never happened, with one of his attorney’s, Carl Maughn visiting with him Tuesday morning. Then came a closed door meeting between attorney’s in the chambers of Judge Trish Rose and apparently that didn’t resolve what ever issues are causing the delay.

So, whether Craig will take the stand at this point is unclear. Judge Rose did tell us after the jury was sent home that the state is expected to rest their case sometime on Wednesday. How long before the jury gets the case will depend on whether the defense presents any evidence or testimony.

Both sides went over jury instructions Tuesday afternoon and working on any changes that need to be made.

Both Logsdon and Craig are charged with the murder of Jennifer Heckel on June 14 of last year, but allegedly, the intended victim was Kayla Rodriquez. They went to a northwest Hutchinson home and killed Heckel. Her little boy was in another room when he says heard four loud booms. Once the man left, he ran to a neighbors home for help.

Craig faces a jury trial in January in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
