Its been awhile since the Reno County Jail Study Committee has met to consider any issues that remain open for the planning for building a new jail at Blanchard And Severance.

The plan is to take the jail proposal to voters next spring to try to get a half cent sales tax approved to fund the 25-million dollar bond issue for the jail. The county is still spending hundreds of thousands of dollars by housing inmates in other facilities, including Butler and Ford counties.

That includes convicted murderer Charles Christopher Logsdon who has been housed in the Ford County Jail, while the co-defendant Billy Craig Junior is being housed in Butler County.

Building a jail would eliminate that process, and would make it easier for jail staff to move inmates to and from the courts.

The plan is to build on land currently owned by the Kansas Department of Corrections.

The Jail Study Committee plans to meet again Tuesday evening at the Reno County Courthouse. The meeting begins at 5 p.m., Tuesday in the Veterans room of the courthouse.
