TOPEKA (AP) – Kansas transportation officials have released a list of more than 430 construction projects totaling $1.1 billion to be carried out in the next two budget years, including several that are already under way.

The list includes three bridge projects in Reno County. The first will include major repair work for two bridges on K-61 north of U-S 50 at a cost of 684-thousand, 645-dollars. The two four lane spans are the two bridges that crosses the Union Pacific and BNSF railroad tracks, and the second is at the Avenue (A) interchange. Martin Miller with K-dot says the project will be bid in February of 2013 with construction to begin shortly after. The work will reduce the bridges to one lane of traffic.

The other project is the replacement of a major box culvert along K-61 between 4th and 11th Avenues, which crosses the Cow Creek ditch. Miller says crews will replace one section of the structure at a time diverting traffic to the other lanes. Bidding for the project is expected in February of 2014

Other projects include completion of the South Lawrence Traffic way in Douglas County; expansion of U.S. 54/Kellogg Avenue in Wichita; and improvements to the junction of Kansas 10 and Interstates 35 and 435 in Johnson County.

The projects are part of the state’s 10-year program for improving highways, airports and public transportation.

KDOT says the projects cover the fiscal year that began July 1 and continue through June 30, 2015.
