The Jury found Aaron Alvarez accused of 2nd degree intentional murder “guilty” as charged Friday Afternoon with a packed courtroom waiting for their verdict

The jury got the case around 10:15 a-m Friday morning after closing arguments by the both the defense and the state. They came back with the verdict around 1:45 p-m.

Alvarez is now guilty for the stabbing death of 23-year-old Allen Frank on November 24, 2011. The two got into an altercation after Alvarez may have accidentally struck Frank’s girlfriend. The two then argued and Alvarez stabbed Frank in the stomach which caused internal bleeding into his abdomen.

The state argued it was a deliberate act and that he had been angry after being kicked out of a local nightclub. He battered not only his girlfriend, bad enough that she sought treatment at the local hospital, but he also apparently struck the girlfriend of Allen Frank.

Frank followed the defendant into his basement apartment where the altercation between the two happened.

The defense contends that Alvarez was trying to protect himself from the much larger Frank. He had told the jury while on the stand Thursday that he believes he could have been killed he had not grabbed the knife. But, the state pointed out that he never made any effort to help the victim once the stabbing occurred, never called authorities. Instead, he ran from the home and was found the next morning by police at some cottages on the west side of town.

The jury apparently didn’t buy his argument that it could have been self defense and found him guilty.

Judge Tim Chambers set a special setting for the sentencing in the case which will occur on January 4, 2013, at 1:30 p-m.

Members of both families weeped as the verdict was read.
