The 24-year-old Hutchinson man we told you about that was arrested back on November 15, for a single count of abuse of a child was in court this morning for a status hearing, and was read the formal complaint against him.

Cody Hazard is alleged to have caused severe bruising to the bottom of a 3-year-old boy on November 14. Police say it was caused by using excessive force when spanking the child.

Police got involved after they were notified by a daycare provider when the child was going to the bathroom and told them of what he called “ouchies” on his bottom.

Hazard was cooperative with police after the incident and is free on 2-thousand, 500-dollar bond. His case will now be placed on a waiver-status docket for January 8, 2013. He did seek an attorney and Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen assigned the Regional Public Defenders Office to represent him at his next court appearance in January.
