Beginning this year, all buildings will have individual math and reading targets that are higher than their current achievement levels, the USD 308 Board of Education learned Monday.

The board heard a report from Assistant Superintendent Donna Davis on achievement targets for all buildings and student subgroups. These targets are designed to increase achievement, not just for buildings that did not make AYP in the past, but also for buildings where test scores already were higher than state targets.

In addition to increased achievement at the building level, the targets also are designed to decrease the achievement gap among gender, racial and economic subgroups.

Later this fall, the board will set similar targets for reading.

They later reviewed math results for the district and determined reasonable progress had been made for the 2010-11 school year.

They also approved the sale of the 2010-11 Building Trades Program home for $221,750.

The program will not have a home for sale in 2011-12.

Instead, the Career and Technical Education Academy has developed a cooperative venture with Hutchinson’s Interfaith Housing to do improvements and housing rehabilitation through Interfaith’s programs.
