Joshua Hickey the 17-year-old who was convicted of being involved with a number of church burglaries in the Hutchinson area was granted another chance on community corrections Thursday by Judge Tim Chambers.

The judge did order the teen to serve another 30-days in the Reno County Jail as a sanction for violating his community corrections. Hickey had been sentenced back in November to 32-months in prison, but then granted 24-months community corrections.

According to the states allegations, he violated his corrections for smoking marijuana and also failing to report to his corrections officer at least once.

He also failed to give his corrections officer his residence change after he got kicked out of his dad’s home for lying. He also technically associated with another individual who is on community corrections when that individuals mother agreed to take him in.

He had been ordered by Judge Chambers to attend services at every church that he broke into, but so far as only completed the apology for one. He has set up a time to do a second, but then failed to show. That according to his Community Corrections Officer Paul Mendoza who took the stand Thursday. He also stated that when Hickey came to his office on December 6, he tested positive for the use of marijuana.

Hickey also took the stand and admitted that he had contact with a co-defendant in the case, that being Desiree Mahoney, but, he explained that she’s the mother of his twins or soon will be.

Judge Chambers taking everything into account order the 30-days, but also lifted the no contact order for Mahoney, meaning once Hickey is released from the county jail, he can contact her anytime he wants. However, She’s charged with four counts of burglary and entered “not guilty” pleas in her case last Friday morning in front of Judge Trish Rose, so she may yet face a jury trial in the case.

Hickey was found guilty of 15 counts of burglary, 15 counts of criminal damage and 8 counts of theft. Hickey was not only convicted for the burglary of churches, but also burglaries of the Dillon’s at 13th & Main, the Pic-Quik on South Main and Hutchinson High School.

Hickey is one of four people suspected in the church burglaries. The others include 24-year-old Justin Branscom, 19-year-old Jordon Schmucker and Mahoney.
