The 42-year-old Hutchinson man arrested last Friday for the alleged raping of a 27-year-old woman made a first appearance Monday where he was told of the potential charge against Him.

Larry Frye Jr. is accused of raping the woman on New Years Day at a home here in Hutchinson.

In court, he asked for a reduction of the 50-thousand dollar bond telling Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that he is a slow learner and also suffers from depression which he says he takes medication for. His mother was also in court and told the judge that her son looks after her because she is a diabetic. But, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson argued against the bond reduction because of the serious charge and Judge McEwen was inclined to agree with him and denied the request.

The case starts with the victim going to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment and it was then reported to police. The victim didn’t know Frye according to statements made in court.

Detective Tyson Myers says a room-mate brought Frye to the home and it was early in the morning, between 5 a-m and 6 a-m on New Year’s Day when the alleged sexual encounter occurred. Frye was not intoxicated, while the victim was reportedly not in a position to give consent for any sexual conduct.

Frye is expected back in court on Wednesday or whenever the state files a formal charge.
