The 38-year-old Wichita man arrested in association with the break-in and theft of jewelry items from a local jeweler has been formally charged in the case.

Derrick Glover was in court Tuesday morning for a first appearance in the case, but the state had already filed formal charges, so Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen read the complaint which charges him with non-residential burglary, criminal damage to property of over 1-thousand dollars and felony theft.

Glover and others are suspected of driving a vehicle through the front of Westphal Jewelers back on January 12.

Another person arrested has not been charged in the case thus far, that being 44-year-old Francis Johnson. He was arrested for failing to appear in another matter. Police may have also arrested the third person involved. The jail log shows a 50-thousand dollar bond for Kenya Demond Breakfield on charges of burglary non-dwelling, theft and criminal damage up to 24-thousand 999-dollars. We were unable to confirm whether his arrest is connected to the Westphal case or not, but we will follow up Wednesday.

Glover asked for a reduction of his 50-thousand dollar bond while in court Tuesday. That was denied by Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen.

Glover’s case will now be placed on a waiver-status docket in front of Judge Joe McCarville on
February 6.
