A Hutchinson man convicted in an arson case and currently suspected in a burglary case finds himself in even more trouble.
24-year-old Jason Volker is jailed on a bond of 48-thousand, 500-dollars on charges of felony flee and elude, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
He apparently attempted to run from a police officer early Wednesday morning. The officer who spotted him knew he had an outstanding warrant. That led to a short chase and Volker eventually stopped and was arrested near his home in the 300 block of East 5th. He was arrested and police alleged that he had the drugs and drug paraphernalia on him.
The warrant was for failing to appear in the burglary case that goes back to September 4, 2012. He is alleged to broken into a private residence and stolen items from that home. He failed to show for a hearing in the case and Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen issued a bench warrant with a 14-thousand dollar bond.
Volker was sentenced to 20-months in prison for a single count of arson. He was then granted 24-months community corrections and ordered to also pay some restitution.
He had reported that two white males had entered his apartment at 5th & Main with a weapon and stole his cell phone back on June 7, 2012.
But, earlier that morning, around 2:30 a-m, Reno County Fire, Sheriff and Drug Unit Detectives were involved in an investigation where they believe a fire was intentionally set on the porch of a home at 8806 South K-17 Highway as well as a car that was fully destroyed. They then discovered of the remnants of a meth lab. Detective Darrian Campbell told us at the time that they found some bricks with blood on it that appeared to have been used to break windows in the home.
Volker had cuts on his arms when sheriff detectives talked with him at his apartment in the Landmark building. He was arrested on two counts of arson and criminal damage to property, however entered a plea to one count of arson.
Davis had been charged with a single count of arson, but entered a plea to aiding and abetting arson. She was apparently seen buying gas believed used to burn the 1995 Pontiac Firebird.
He should make an appearance on the new charges Thursday.
