A 31-year-old Hutchinson man facing trial on multiple counts of burglary was in court where a motion to suppress was denied by Judge Trish Rose

Rusty Bryant faces trial on 6-counts of aggravated burglary, 1-count of burglary and 7-counts of auto burglary associated with crimes in the Prairie Dunes- Linksland Drive area in suburban Hutchinson between July 5, and 11.

His attorney wanted the search warrant of his home thrown out stating that she didn’t believe that they had probable cause for the search. Apparently a confidential informant told a South Hutchinson Police Officer of where some of the items taken from the burglaries might be. That informant also gave Bryant’s name as the alleged thief. The South Hutchinson officer then apparently passed the information on to the sheriff’s office leading to the search. The judge ruled in favor of the state and denied the suppression motion.

The trial will begin with jury selection in this case on Tuesday and the state believes the trial will last about 2-days. They expect to call 25-witnesses during the trial so they will select 12-jurors and 1-alternate.

But, he also faces trial for two burglaries and thefts in the city of Hutchinson, one of which occurred outside Grace Bible Church at 1221 East 33rd.

He allegedly stole tools from Wiens and Company Construction and their employees. They had a semi trailer at that location and he allegedly broke a lock and stole various tools from the truck.

The other case involves him breaking into a vehicle at a nearby car lot and stealing a GPS Device and CD’s from that vehicle in which a Hutchinson woman had apparently left there overnight.

Both crimes occurring on July 13.

Jury selection begins Tuesday morning.
