HAMBURG, GERMANY – It has become its own entity in one of the worlds largest companies. Siemens will officially kick off its new division, which will be based entirely on its wind energy business, this weekend.

The new Siemens Wind Power Division headquartered in Hamburg, Germany will start operations on October 1.

A world wide celebration is scheduled for Siemens employees on Monday including the nacelle facility in Hutchinson.

Hamburg is considered a highly attractive location and at the same time one of the world’s most important wind power centers.

Siemens is working to build on a record order backlog totaling almost 11 billion euros and, now lead the world in offshore wind power plants, it’s fastest growing market sector.

It’s anticipated that the work force of Siemens Wind Power in Hamburg will triple from the current 170 to over 500 by 2013. Worldwide Siemens has a work force of approximately 7,800 in the wind power sector.

Siemens says the prospects for wind power are very good. It is anticipated that the world market will increase from approximately EUR42 billion in 2010 to around EUR60 billion in 2016.
