We will have to wait a little longer to find out whether a 17-year-old convicted of being involved with numerous church burglaries will be sent to prison.

Judge Tim Chambers had already given Joshua Hickey a second chance on community corrections ordering a 30-day sanction in the case, but now he’s charged with other similar crimes, involving stores and churches. He had been sentenced back in November to 32-months in prison, but then granted 24-months community corrections.

He was released from the county jail for the 30-day sanction, and was out for 7-hours before he allegedly committed another burglary. His latest arrest involves burglaries which occurred at Dillon’s 1319 North Main, Trinity United Methodist church, 1602 N. Main and the First Church of Christ Scientist located at 1400 N. Main.

The hearing on the Community Corrections violation had been scheduled for Friday morning, but apparently his attorney Shannon Crane and District Attorney Keith Schroeder agreed to a 30-day continuance to see if he should be bound over for trial in the new case.

He’s now charged with 3 counts of burglary, 1 count of arson, 2 counts of criminal damage, 1 count of felony criminal damage, 3 counts of misdemeanor theft, 3 counts of contributing to a child’s misconduct or deprivation, 1 count of unlawful possession of a prescription, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. But, he has the presumption of innocence in this new case and no probable cause has been made that it should go to trial.

The possibility of him being sent to prison is on hold for the time being because of the 30-day continuance.

He remains in the Reno County Jail with a $75,000.00 bond and the date for the community corrections violation now is scheduled for March 8.
