The Reno County Sheriff’s Office is warning of another phone scam hitting the area.
They took a suspicious activity call from a lady who said she had gotten a call from an individual with broken English, who claimed to be a representative of the Social Security Administration. The caller requested her banking account information and said they needed it so that they could send her a new medicare card.
Luckily, the caller knew that it was a scam and did not provide any information.
A deputy did call back the number and it says the number is no longer in service.
We checked other sources and found several other people have been called by this same number and when they call back they get the same message.
Officials say the main thing to remember is that the Social Security Administration would never do business this way.
Remember, never give out any personal information to anyone over the phone, internet, or at your door. If you suspect someone may be trying to gain your personal information, call the company or organization. The contact law enforcement.
