TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment latest samples recreational bodies of water for blue-green algae has shows the level of the algae has decreased in the ponds at the Dillon Nature Center, meaning they are no longer listed under a warning. However, they are still listed under an advisory.

And, based on the latest samplings, Marion County Lake is no longer under a warning or an advisory.

KDHE officials issue a warning when high levels of toxic blue-green algae have been detected. That indicates that water conditions are unsafe and direct water contact such as wading, skiing and swimming should be avoided. C

There are some area public waters that are still under warnings. They include Santa Fe Lake and Augusta City Lake, both in Augusta, Memorial Park Lake, in Great Bend, Harvey County East Lake and Harvey County West Lake, in Harvey County.

In addition to the lakes at the Dillon Nature Center being under an advisoy, Harvey County Camp Hawk Lake, Riggs Park Lake in Haysville are also included.
