Still no word on the cause of early morning house fire east of Hutchinson Monday.
Five people managed to escape injury from the fire which started in the back of the home where it spread to the attic causing the roof to collapse. According fireman at the scene, they first got the call around 7:21 a-m, this at 503 North Barnes Lake Road.
One of the couples young boys smelled smoke and alerted the rest of the family. The five were able to escape the home uninjured, but the fire caused extensive damage the structure, which is a total loss. However, fire officials had not yet listed the dollar amount of the loss.
Crews removed sections of the roof through the day Monday, so they can continue their investigation.
The Red Cross was at the scene Monday morning to assist the family with whatever they needed as far as finding shelter.
