Hutch Man Enters Plea In Battery Case Involving His Truck

Tommy Rockey 2

The Hutchinson area man who accidentally ran over a Wichita man back in September of last year entered a plea as charged Tuesday morning.

46-year-old Tommy Rockey is charged with aggravated battery for the incident which caused the victim to be flown to a Wichita hospital.

Sheriff Officials say it happened just before 6:30 p-m, on the evening of September 26, at 5510 East 69th. When deputies arrived, they discovered that a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Rockey had driven up a small hill, lost control, and started driving towards a crowd of people.

Everyone but 24-year-old Daron O’Malley of Wichita managed to get out of the way and he was run over. O’Malley was airlifted by EagleMed Helicopter to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries.

With the plea Tuesday, sentencing will be on April 12, in front of Judge Joe McCarville.

Rockey remains free on a bond of 10-thousand dollars.
