A Hutchinson man who claims he’s cooked methamphetamine inside a mobile home east of Hutchinson for years was taken into custody early Thursday morning on manufacturing charges.

The Drug Enforcement Unit served a search warrant on the property at 7101 Pony Acres Road and Jeffrey Hamilton was the only one present. He was allegedly in the process of making meth when the search began. Drug Unit Detective Jeremy Hedges says the cook was about three fourth of the way from being complete and ready to go through what they call the “gassing process.”

He says they found 3-to-4 ounces of a grunge material while doing the search. They also found the active ingredients to make meth including a 40-pound tank, half full of anhydrous ammonia, as well as lithium batteries and ephedrine pills. They also allegedly found some piping and packaging materials at that location.

Hedges says they brought in the Hutchinson Fire Department because of the need to ventilate the mobile home and because of the anhydrous ammonia.

He was using virtually the entire length of the single-wide mobile home says Hedges which was located near the actual home that Hamilton was living in.

They served the search at around 2:30 a-m Thursday morning and he was taken to jail around 6 a-m.

He didn’t make a court appearance Friday, because he was apparently able to post the 137-thousand, 500-dollar bond. He should make an initial court appearance next week.
