Hutchinson Fireman worked an a couple of duplex fire fire at 9 th & Walnut. It appears it was some kind of electrical issue with the bob on the west side of the building on fire. They couldn’t really put that out until Westar Energy cut the power.
Then there appeared to be heavy smoke but no flames coming from the attic of the southern most building and fireman worked to get that taken care of and were able to get that under control.
One resident told us she called the fire department when she saw the flames. At least two dogs were rescued from the buildings and Animal Control was on scene as well as Hutchinson EMS.
Its unknown at this point how many may have been living in the buildings, but the owner of the property was on scene, as well as a chaplain to help assist the residents
Police blocked Walnut from 8th to 10th and 9th from Main to Poplar to traffic while fireman worked the scene. A number of fire units called to the scene although it appears the building will be able to be saved.
One of the readers of our Facebook Page says ten people were effected, three families total. The Red Cross as always have been called in to assist.
