MANHATTAN – A 19-year-old Ogdon man, Michael Patrick Dechant is facing charges in Riley County in connection with the death of a 6-month-old child late last week.

Riley County Police responded Friday evening to a report of the infant not breathing. The infant was then transported to Mercy Regional Hospital in Manhattan, where the infant was subsequently life-flighted to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Around 6:30 a-m, Monday morning, the infant was pronounced dead.

The investigation is still on-going, but Dechant is facing charges of 1st degree murder and child abuse charges.

Bond in the case set at 500-hundred thousand dollars.
