One person was taken to a Wichita hospital early Saturday, and another man was taken to jail because of an accident in the county.
It was around 5:16 a-m, when E-M-S and Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to an injury accident at Trails West and Salem Roads, near Abbyville. When they arrived they found 19-year-old Dawson Harris of Hutchinson with head injuries and in serious condition.
Deputies found there was a party at a nearby home and the victim was passed out. Friends put him in the bed of their truck and headed to Hutchinson. When the individuals arrived at Hutchinson they found Harris gone from the bed of the truck. He apparently either fell out, jumped out or bounced out. That’s unknown at this point according to Sheriff Randy Henderson.
The friends, along with the victims brother, back tracked and found him at Trails West and Salem. Harris was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center because Life Team was grounded due to weather. He was later transferred to a Wichita hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the truck was identified as 18-year-old Tanner Nicks of Hutchinson. Nicks was arrested and charged with DUI and aggravated battery and criminal use of weapons. He is free on bond according to the jail log of the sheriff’s office.
