A Hutchinson man accused of second degree murder was ordered to prison for 11-months Monday by District Judge Tim Chambers over a previous conviction for drugs.

20-year-old Issac Beltran was on corrections for a drug conviction from December of 2010. He was found to have violated the corrections for using alcohol, being arrested in the murder case and Judge Joe McCarville finding probable cause to send the case to trial.

Under very tight security Monday, Judge Tim Chambers set a motion deadline of April 19, and jury trial date of June 3 for the murder case.

Beltran faces trial on charges of intentional second degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm. The charges, the result of the shooting death of 26-year-old Dustin Brooks in the alley behind the home where Beltran lived at 203 North Cleveland. The shooting occurring on October 31, last Halloween. Brooks suffered a gunshot wound to the torso and died after emergency surgery failed at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

There was a high presence of law enforcement both inside and outside the courtroom. Sheriff Randy Henderson had the metal detector set up and everyone had to go through it on the third floor before they were allowed to do any business, whether they were there for that hearing or not.

Beltran remains jailed in the murder case on a 150-thousand dollar bond.
