The defense in the case against Billy Craig may have a little more of an argument for a change of venue if the judge buys into the results of a survey that show that 80.6 of the around 345 people surveyed new about the case and thought Craig was probably guilty of being involved in the killing of Jennifer Heckel.

Breaking that down a little further, 24.9% think Craig is definitely guilty, 26.7%, believe he definitely committed first degree murder from what they know, 29% think he’s committed the crime but not sure of the details, while 18.8% isn’t sure of his guilt of innocents. The rest, 0.3% believe he’s innocent

District Judge Tim Chambers says he’ll schedule another motions hearing in the murder case to also go over the survey. The defense argues that Craig can’t get a fair trial because of advance publicity, but the results of the survey being made public guaranteed more advance publicity of this case.

The study was done by two professors from Pittsburg State University.

Craig is charged for murder and other crimes associated with being involved in the murder of Jennifer Heckel on June 14, of last year. He along with Logsdon went to the home of Heckel and killed her while her young son was in the next room listening.

Craig is also facing a charge of contempt of court when he refused to testify in the Logsdon trial.

Plus, he was just granted a new attorney in a computer crimes case against him.
