A 22-year-old Hutchinson man who entered a plea to indecent liberties with a child was sentenced to 57-months in prison Monday morning by Judge Tim Chambers. Judge Chambers then granted an extremely long community corrections assignment, 10-years. Plus Zachary Brawner will have to serve 60-days in the county jail as part of that sentence.
Brawner was convicted of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old teen which was apparently consensual, but it’s a violation of state law for anyone to have sex with an underage teen even if it is consensual. The alleged crime occurring back on September 10, 2011.
Apparently, he met the girl on Facebook and also talked with her on the phone. She indicated that she would be at her grandmothers home and he apparently came and picked her up and they went to the fair. They then returned to the grandmothers home where the sexual encounter occurred.
He apparently felt guilty and turned himself in. According to statements made in court, he told the officer who took the initial report that he knew she didn’t want sex, saying he could see it in her eyes, plus he told the officer that he knew she had a boyfriend. He alleged that he raped the 15-year-old, but the state charged him with the indecent liberties count.
Again, he was granted community corrections for 10-years.
