MCPHERSON – One of two men charged in the killing of a Tabor football player has entered a plea in the case and will be sentenced this summer.

According to McPherson County Attorney David Page, 19-year-old Dequinte Oshea Flourney entered a plea to an amended complaint of aiding and abetting aggravated battery, a level 5 person felony. He apparently entered a “no contest” plea and was found guilty by the judge.

The decision for the plea was apparently supported by the family of the victim, 26-year-old Brandon Brown

He along with 19-year-old Alton Franklin, both of Dallas, Texas, were charged in the case and have been jailed on a half million dollar bond.

The charges against the two men came after Brown, a Tabor football player died after a disturbance in the early morning of September 16, 2012 in McPherson.

Brown was found in the 400 block of North Carrie and sustained critical injuries as a result of the altercation. He was taken to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center where he died at 10:16 p-m, on Saturday September 22.

The case against Franklin is still pending trial, while sentencing for Flourney will be on June 3. He’s expected to testify at Franklin’s trial, scheduled to start Monday.

Franklin, if convicted of the charge faces a sentencing range of 109-to-143 months, and a fine up to $3,000.00.

Both men were football players at McPherson College.
