Westar crew working on a poll and lines in South Hutchinson
Many who lost power in the Westar Energy territory had their power restored as a result of the storm, but others weren’t so lucky. As of 5 p-m Wednesday, 455-customers were still without power.
The biggest outages in south-central Kansas were reported in Reno, Sedgwick and Harvey counties. Crews have been busy through the day working on arching lines.
There were also outages with other service providers including Ark Valley that serve rural areas of the county as well.
City crews were also working to clear some streets because of falling branches.
Local law enforcement and the Kansas Highway Patrol report that they responded to dozens of accidents.
Temperatures plunged late Tuesday amid heavy rain, turning the precipitation to ice that continued to coat trees, power lines and bridges Wednesday afternoon.
It may not be a first, but certainly uncommon to be under severe weather watches and warnings and winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings all at the same time.
