A longtime assistant coach has been named head girls’ basketball coach at Hutchinson High School.
Reno County native Casey Stiggins takes over the head coaching duties of the Salthawk girls’ basketball team for the 2013-14 school year.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to take over the girls program,” Stiggins said. “I’ve had the privilege to work under some great head coaches in the past who have shaped my coaching style.”
Stiggins joined USD 308 as a teacher and coach in 1999 after graduating from Wichita State University. He received his masters in leadership and administration from Baker University in 2007. Stiggins played sports in high school at Haven High School.

“Casey has done what it takes to prepare himself, both on and off the court, for this position,” said Eric Armstrong, HHS athletic director. “Coach Stiggins is passionate about the game of basketball and knows the hard work and dedication it takes to be successful.

“Casey has worked with some really good coaches over his time as an assistant at HHS, and I believe this has helped prepare him to lead the Salthawk girls’ basketball program.” His first coaching job in USD 308 was as assistant freshman boys’ coach from 1999 to 2003. He became the assistant head boys’ basketball coach under Phil Anderson from 2003 to 2006.

Stiggins became assistant head girls’ basketball coach in 2006, a position he held till 2009. The coach moved back over to the boys’ team in 2009 to become the head freshman coach through the 2012-13 season.
“My vision is to create a program that has toughness, a winning attitude and will compete for titles,” Stiggins said.
