County Counselor Announces Foreclosed Properties Headed To Sheriff’s Sale

County Counselor Joe O’Sullivan Tuesday informed the County Commission about the number of property owners that are delinquent on their property taxes. He says they have filed foreclosure notices on 143 properties which he says ranges from vacant land to commercial buildings to residential structures.

He says if its a homestead, they are delinquent from 2008 which gets them into a tax sale and if their non homestead properties they are delinquent from 2009.

One of those properties is Sunflower Wind LLC., and O’Sullivan says those taxes haven’t been paid either for a company that never really got off the ground. They used to own what is the east component of the Eaton Plant at 4th & Airport Road. They did a lot of renovation of the inside of the building and owe approximately 378-thousand dollars including interest.

He tells us that any Sheriff sale will come in the fall explain why it takes so long for this process. He says it takes sometime to serve notice to all the people involved in these 143 properties. He says they also have to get judgment against the properties and then publish notice of a sheriff’s sale.

He says those who they have foreclosed on will now need to pay all the taxes. He says prior to them filing against the properties last Friday, they could pay the taxes for the oldest year owed and they wouldn’t be included in the sale, but now that it has been filed those property owners will have to pay all the taxes and interest and can do that right up to the day before the sale.

O’Sullivan says any Sheriff sale will come possibly in late September, but an actual date will be announced, probably in August.
