Reno County Commissioners Move Ahead With New Jail Financing

Reno County Jail

The two matters related to the Reno County Jail Project were approved by the Reno County Commission Tuesday morning. They agreed to start the process of issuing bonds totaling 28.9 million dollars. However, they may get a lower interest rate then first thought which could mean a savings of 1.3-million dollars in interest paid over the life of the bonds which would be 10-years. That according to County Administrator Gary Meagher who says the interest rate could be as low as 1.80%.

They also approved putting in place the 1-half cent sales tax that would go into effect on October 1.

The county although hearing a presentation from a group from Inman who want to build a new senior living center around 56th & Halstead, no decision was made on issuing any bonds. They’re seeking 5.3 million dollars worth of bonds that they would pay off but would be issued by the county. A final decision will come once all the zoning issues are complete with the project which is moving forward. If all goes well and the bonds are issued, they would like to break ground in September.
