Horizons Mental Health Center’s Shine Walkers continue their trek across Kansas for the Walk Kansas Challenge, sponsored by Kansas State University.

Sara Wallace, Sara Lewton, Kathy Hanshew, Noni New, Kerry Nation and Kathy Miller, employees of Horizons Mental Health Center in Pratt, are on the mission to walk the perimeter of Kansas before the 8-week challenge is over.

The Walk Kansas challenge began March 17th, and continues to May 11th.

Kathy Miller, the team leader of Horizons’ Shine Walkers, says the Walk Kansas program is a great tool to get people motivated to live healthier lifestyles.

Each week, the team members submit a report of their total physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption. The team’s progress is then displayed on the walkkansas.org website on their Walk Kansas progress Kansas map.

Sixteen teams from Pratt County are participating in the challenge. Horizons’ Shine Walkers are in the current ranking of 2nd place, with 509 miles on record, and a goal of 1,200 miles.

The team will continue to trek their way to the finish line, with hopes of finishing first.

Horizons Mental Health Center employs 200 at their Barber, Harper, Kingman, Pratt and Reno County offices.
